Fuchsia

Some plants you never get bored of and the Fuchsia is certainly one of them. The Fuchsia is fascinating, enchanting, glorious and intriguing at the same time. There are many different types of Fuchsia including trailing and climbing varieties, shrubs and, of course, trees. Fuchsias also come with different shaped flowers and in different colours and colour combinations. Did you know that most orange varieties can tolerate more sun than other varieties? Or that Fuchsias with white flowers really don’t like the sunlight? If they are planted in direct sunlight, the white petals will often turn pink. But above all, the Fuchsia is a cheerful pot plant which is easy to care for and will give you plenty of flowers all summer long.

Where to put the plant on your patio or balcony

The Fuchsia will thrive in a warm, sunny or semi-shaded spot on a patio which is preferably also fairly sheltered from the wind. Do you have a balcony? Fuchsias will also thrive on balconies as long as your balcony is not south-facing. Avoid direct sunlight as much as possible. The morning or evening sun is what fuchsias like most. Did you know that a plastic pot is better than one made of clay? Here is a handy tip to remember if you are putting a Fuchsia on your patio or balcony: in a plastic pot, the soil will lose less water than it would in a pot made of clay.

Caring for your Fuchsia

The Fuchsia loves water so watering your plant every day will not harm it. After a downpour, it is advisable to check the soil in the pot. In the case of dense, bushy plants, the potting soil may still be dry. Remove faded flowers in order to encourage your fuchsia to produce new flowers. Your Fuchsia will really appreciate being fed on a regular basis.
